There aren’t that many bed designs really, but we thought we would highlight the major styles as the bed you use can play a big role in how your bedroom looks and feels. It is the biggest piece of furniture in the room – so it becomes a natural focal point.
Platform Beds: The benefit of having a platform bed is that there is no need to have a box spring. Doing this creates a more modern bedroom style as seen in pictures (2) and (3) (Room Guide: Modern Bedroom Ideas and Designs).
. There are platform beds that stick out on the sides – giving you a little space to put small items like glasses, phones, books, etc.
Sleigh Bed: A sleigh bed is a type of platform bed that can be wooden or upholstered. Because of its elegantly curved headboard, baseboard, and legs it resembles a sleigh (4) (5).
French: If you want to go for a more traditional, vintage style bed, then look to French bed sets. French style furniture is more decorative, timeless, and rounded as seen in pictures (6) and (7).
Grand Statement Beds: A 4 poster bed (8) or a canopy bed set (9) are more unique styles (Romantic Ideas: Canopy Bedroom Designs). You can even hang drapes from the canopy bed to create a more romantic, secluded feeling (How to Create a Romantic Bedroom: Pictures, Designs and Decor Ideas).
Space Saving: Bunk beds and loft beds (where you have a desk under the top bunk) are ideal for kids rooms (Cool Bedroom Ideas for Kids) (Bunk Bed Ideas for an Awesome Kids Room). For kids sharing a room or for a guest bedroom there is the trundle bed – which is a single bed with roll out mattress underneath (10). Then there are built in beds – more common in kids rooms (11) but also can be done in master bedrooms. Another space saving idea is to use a bed that has storage in the headboard – have a look her for different headboard ideas and designs: Headboard Design Ideas: From Monograms to Fireplace Mantels.
