One good area to look for vintage decor ideas is in the interests you have. It could be anything motor related, or do you have any sort of building or crafting hobby. There are sure to be vintage tools that can be bought and displayed from Etsy. Here are some vintage decor ideas for men based on tools and mechanical pieces:

  • Hand tools such as wooden hammers, hand drills, axes or folding rulers seen in picture (1)
  • Letterpress tools and stamps (2)
  • Blacksmith tools
  • Car signs and parts
  • Motorcycle helmets, goggles and gears

Wall Art Decor

Black and white photos, vintage maps (3), blueprints, metal letters (4) and subway signs make for great vintage wall decor pieces for a guy’s pad.

Using Leather

Vintage Sports Decor

The vintage sports decor pieces in the pictures above are perfect for the man cave (The Cave: Basement Ideas for Men), a man’s bedroom even, or a home bar.

When I was searching for vintage and antique styled sporting decor, quite a lot of what I was looking for was found at Restoration Hardware. All of the photos above and this post is really all about them, because what they have on offer is perfect.

Restoration Hardware have quite a few different leather balls: an American football as seen in picture (1), soccer ball, and a medicine training ball. They also have leather boxing gloves (2) and punching bags – which all work well as antique decor pieces.

Moving away from the leather goods, RH have framed flags seen in the background of picture (3). The US (4), UK, Canada, Australia, and Norway flags are available. For more abstract decor ideas, the metal letters they sell can be used to spell out the initial of a sports team (5). Or how about a vintage map of the city of your sports team (6)? RH also have cast iron dumbbells (7) and a framed cricket bat (8).

For other vintage decor items like boxing posters, framed baseball cards, baseball caps, and surfboards – Etsy and Zazzle are great places to look. Pottery Barn is another place that sells leather boxing bags, along with antique style pool tables. 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8

Yup all men are different, but some things are universal – like wanting a low maintenance room, with a bold and simple decor style. Here are some design tips and bedroom ideas for men:

Design Style: The design style of a man’s bedroom should be big and bold. Have a look at the large blocks in picture (1). Even the chandelier in that picture is large, bold and simple and does not have any decorative elements.

Colors Schemes: When it comes to the bedroom’s color scheme you’ll want to keep to strong solid colors. This doesn’t just apply to the wall paint but everything in the room – from the furniture, to the bed sheets, wall decor and accessories.

White is always a great base color to have on the walls and build the rest of the room from. Other paint color ideas include black and white, grey (2) and earth hues like green, brown (3) and even navy. The furniture pieces in the room will add to the overall color scheme. Some manly furniture styles to go for are dark woods (4) and leather (5), or chrome finishes for a more modern look.

Furniture Pieces: Here are some ideas on what furniture pieces to include. A great bed style to go for is a platform one. A leather bench is also a great addition. Having a full body floor mirror helps in getting ready each day as seen in pictures (6) and (7).

Gadgets: Get tunes playing by having an iPod dock or just a bedside table with a music unit. Or if you want to get fancy, the AudioBulb is a light bulb and speaker in one (8) – pretty cool. You just screw them into any normal light socket (ceiling or lamp) and you’ll have an instant wireless sound and light system that you can control from a remote control.

Lighting Ideas: Here is a design tip: if you want to make the bedroom feel large then you’ll want to use as much ceiling lighting as possible and aim to light up all corners of the room. Hanging a mirror on a wall also makes the space feel larger.  If you want to make the bedroom feel more cozy and romantic (How to Create a Romantic Bedroom: Pictures, Designs and Decor Ideas) then you’ll want to avoid using the ceiling lights and instead use table and floor lamps. Having your lights hooked up to a dimmer switch is a great way of changing the feel of the room instantly.

Men’s Decor Accessories: When it comes to more decorative elements for a guys room – abstract pieces work best. Like the paintings in pictures (9) and (10). Other mens bedroom ideas include decorating with black and white photos – which adds a nice classical touch (11). Soundproof the walls, use a large flat screen TV or hook up a projector, and go a step further by getting a popcorn stand. There is the option to tailor this movie theater space into a sports theater – with multiple screens and sporting memorabilia decorating the walls.

A wine cellar can be simple – just having shelving and storage to keep wine. Or it can be more elaborate with stone walls, a leather seating area, store some cigars, cabinets with display lighting, a cooling unit, and a humidifier (Rustic Décor Ideas For a Basement). (4) A game room can be modern with a large screen TV, powerful sound system, sound proofed walls, recliner chairs and Playstations or Xboxes. There are more traditional games that can also used to create a home gaming room like a pool or foosball table, darts board, ping pong table, or go retro with some pinball tables.

(5) Turn a basement space into a home golf simulator. Lay down some astro turf and shoot into a basic golf net, or go virtual by adding a projector and sensors to create your own golf course in your basement.

(7) Create your own home music room – soundproof the basement, install a high end hi fi surround sound system, and decorate the walls with music memorabilia. It can also be a place to keep musical instruments and recording equipment.
